Review: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s “Cruisin’ For A Bruisin’”

CREWSIN

My “Catch up on the last year of PWG” project continues with a review of this event from January of 2006. While not as consistent of a release as the Astonishing X-Mas DVD I reviewed previously, Cruisin’ For A Bruisin’ is still a must-have for PWG fans. I might have actually liked this release a bit better than X-Mas because of how exceptional the main event is. The undercard isn’t bad at all either even if there is some “eh” stuff.

Davey Richards off ROH shows this weekend

I’m sorry to say for those of you going to the Philly ROH show this weekend, you won’t be seeing the rematch of this encounter I recently reviewed.

(I told you Joe’s highlights were bad). Here’s the quote directly from ROH:

“Due to an injury suffered in training Davey Richards will not be able to compete this weekend. He will be back in action in Datyon on 2/23. Richards insists that he will still be in attendance this weekend.

A replacement in the Four Way Fray will be announced at the show in Manhattan.

Samoa Joe will either wrestle Nigel McGuinness or the loser of the Jimmy Rave/Homicide 2/16 match in Philadelphia.

We’ll have an update on Samoa Joe’s Philly opponent by Saturday morning.

We apologize for the lineup change and assure you that we deliver two outstanding events. Tickets will be available at the door on both nights.

Thank you.”

Burning Crusade part 0 “Old News”

A little over a week ago the highly anticipated expansion to the most popular MMO of all time was finally released. In this post I’ll talk about the major changes that the expansion brings to the WOW universe, now to a lot of fans this is old news but considering that this blog wasn’t up at the time it was announced I might as well give my opinion about it now.

Review: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s “Astonishing X-Mas”

XMAS

While ROH is kind of my favorite fed by default since I’ve seen so many great shows live thanks to them, sometimes I wish I lived in California and could see PWG on a regular basis instead. PWG is a SoCal fed with a lucha influence and a great sense of humor. When I was going over the WSX roster before, a lot of those guys are regulars in PWG. It’s a federation that doesn’t usually produce the big MOTYCs (although 2006 may have been an exception), but delivers a fun and unique style that’s consistently good in the ring. I’m catching up on the last year or so of major PWG DVDs I’ve missed, and as a result I’ll be throwing some reviews up here when I get the chance. I started off with Astonishing X-Mas, the fed’s last event from 2005.

Wrestling Society X Quicky Review: Episode 2

After an okay debut, the second episode of MTV’s WSX was a bigger step in the right direction. The episodes from this one on were filmed a while after the first, which was the pilot. Supposedly people involved with the show didn’t feel the pilot was a good representation of the rest of the season. Well this episode wasn’t completely different but it made better use of the time and didn’t feel like they were cramming everything in as much. Two solid little TV matches with Human Tornado VS the XPW guy and Disco/Ryan VS Team Dragon Gate. Genki Horiguchi didn’t really get to show his stuff but both teams looked solid, and the 70s gimmick is going to be great. Joey Ryan got to work in his asthma attack spot which is genius, and Disco might have been the only person on the entire episode who sold for a grand total of more than 3 seconds. Human Tornado got the debut he deserved and kicked Luke Hawx or whatever his name is straight in the fucking ear with his always nutty over the top rope flipping plancha. The main event was whatever, I really wish Waltman would drop the god damn bronco buster already.
