This past week was absolutely friggin’ huge for comics. Marvel shipped two oversized one-shots that plant the seeds for big events in two totally separate corners of the Marvel U., the Justice League of America/Justice Society of America crossover wrapped up in style, Top Cow shipped the debut issue of Paul Dini’s creator-owned book, and we even got new issues of Cap and Amazing Spidey. I don’t know what’s going to hurt worse after this week’s List, my bank account or my typing fingers.

Two ridiculously huge books showed up in the List this week, to the point where picking out stuff to review isn’t even remotely challenging. The Hulk is finally back on Earth, and he’s decided to talk out his differences with the Illuminati in a rational, civilized manner. Meanwhile, over in New Avengers, we saw the first shades of what is going to be the biggest thing in the Marvel U. in ‘08, if not in recent memory. I think it’s officially summer once books like these start coming out. Oh and I should probably mention: SPOILERS AHOY!

One of the most maltreated groups of gamers are fans of the space-sim genre. Once upon a time, space-sims were abundant. It is one of those classic genres that people thought would never get old; except it kind of did. Developers started taking the “sim” part more seriously and games got harder, less accessible, and therefore less popular. A lot of the things that made space-sims so great were sacrificed in order to just make the game larger and more complicated. The competition was no longer ‘who can make the most exciting and stimulating game’ and instead was ‘who can make the most complicated and boring space economy’ (I’m looking at you X3). It was no longer about fun, and was more about how many ships you could fly and how many factors came into spice trading.

Because I’m an absolute glutton for punishment, I’m double-blogging tonight. Today was the first day of the biggest show in Philly and one of the biggest shows on the east coast, the annual stop of the Wizard World tour. I was there from gate to gate (and beyond), braving the legions of nerds from all over the nerd spectrum and NOT standing in line for Mike Turner sigs. This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive recap of the day’s events and announcements; if you want that, read Newsarama or some other site where people actually get paid. This is simply what I thought of Day One.

Marvel’s Box Office Assault 2007 keeps rolling this weekend with the sequel to 2005’s Fantastic Four. How did Marvel’s first family fare in their second big-screen outing (that actually counts) and can you do a cinematic take on the coming of Galactus without flying about a mile above the audience’s head? Not a particularly heavy week for the list, but some high quality stuff nonetheless. We got new issues of Dini on Detective and Brubaker on Uncanny, and the New Warriors re-launch didn’t even suck. However, my pick of the week is a book that’s only 8 pages of story and the most important scene actually takes place on the cover. That may sound strange but you’re only a click away from enlightenment.

This really isn’t a blow by blow review simply because I didn’t bother to take notes. I am just giving you my thoughts on the matches. Also, if you missed it tonight you totally missed out and should probably cry yourself to sleep tonight. With an entirely solid undercard and a potential match of the year (but not the one you think) this card was as stacked as it could have been without the second coming of CM Punk.

What can I say about Mario Strikers Charged that hasn’t already been said? Pretty much anything I want because you don’t know anyone that has played it. Wario plays dirty, Peach is disturbingly hot, Yoshi is a punk, and Dry Bones destroys all other supporting characters. Now, is this game going to bring you any closer to justifying your purchase?

This week marks my first chance since I started doing the List to review an issue of Garth Ennis’ and Darick Robertson’s “The Boys.” So review it (and editorialize on the series as a whole) I shall.
